Idle Life: Retrenchment Day

Retrenched. That happened yesterday at work.

A few were glad but to most, they never see it coming. A college who had 16years of service was glad that it happened. He had enough and need a change. He will take a break for 2 months and return to find a job after that. However, another who had the same length of service was near to a breakdown. I felt sorry for him.

There is a lesson to be learn here. There is no longer a long lasting employment that we can hold for now in Singapore. Loyalty (with hard work & dedication) has no part in the working environment anymore. Time has changed. My time could be next. You can never know.

One thing for sure. What ever happens, you must be prepared and not let any situation get a hold on you. I wished good fortune to my first college ( who is well prepared ) and a very good luck to the other.

Idle Lide: Raining days & driving

Singapore has been raining continuously for the past week. Started with light drizzle, becoming moderate and then the heavy poured for about 10-15mins. This is the pattern that the rain fell here. Its very cooling (no air conditioning for these nights) but I missed those warm nights and days.

I got a car during the short holiday break. It has been about a year since I sold my car. Driving here is still pressurizing. I don’t really enjoy that much anymore and do not know how I endured the 10 years of driving when I had the car.

The road was forever wet during my days with the car. However, the habits of a small percentage of drivers still irritates. No advance signals, no regards of speed limits, do not give way to others and no lights! I have always joked with my friends that cars in Singapore could be very much cheaper if distributors make these few features as optional – signal lights, wipers (rear), head / taillights – buy if you need them!!. Another grievances are that the NEW drivers had followed these goons. So no matter what the traffic police do, things will never change.
